Choosing the Approach That Fits Your Child
At Discovery, we believe early learning should reflect how children naturally explore and understand the world. That’s why our Pre-K program is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach.
Below is a simple comparison to help families understand how Reggio differs from Montessori.
REGGIO EMILIA
- Project based learning driven by student questions
- Collaboration and discussion are central
- Open ended materials encourage creativity and design
- Learning emerges and evolves over time
- Teacher is a co-learner and active participant
- Classroom is flexible, expressive, studio like
- Strong focus on communication and language
- Real world themes and community connections
MONTESSORI
- Individual work with predefined materials
- Children mostly work independently
- Materials have a single correct use
- Learning follows a structured sequence
- Teacher observes and guides from the side
- Classroom is orderly, minimal, fixed
- Limited emphasis on group dialogue
- Focus on skill mastery and repetition
Reggio Emilia–Inspired Pre-K Program
Our Pre-K program is designed for four-year-olds who are ready to think deeply, ask questions, and engage with the world around them. Through a Reggio Emilia–inspired approach, learning is meaningful, collaborative, and rooted in curiosity.

Learning Through Exploration
Children learn best when they explore ideas that matter to them. Our Pre-K students investigate real questions through hands-on projects, discussion, and play.

Small Class, Big Thinking
Small class sizes allow teachers to truly know each child, support individual growth, and create strong relationships that build confidence and independence.

Creative Expression
Art, movement, music, and storytelling are essential tools for learning. Children express ideas in many forms, strengthening communication and problem-solving skills.

Social and Emotional Growth
Collaboration is central to our classroom. Students practice empathy, responsibility, and teamwork while developing a strong sense of belonging.

Learning Environment
Our classrooms are calm, light-filled, and intentionally designed with natural materials that invite curiosity, focus, and creativity.

Teacher as Guide
Teachers observe, listen, and guide learning based on each child’s interests. Instruction evolves through curiosity, not worksheets or rigid pacing.
Why Reggio Emilia Instead of Montessori?
Montessori is highly structured and works well for children who thrive with individual, self-directed tasks and fixed materials.
Discovery School of Innovation follows a Reggio Emilia–inspired approach, which is ideal for curious, social learners. Children collaborate, ask questions, explore real-world ideas, and express their thinking through conversation, art, and play. Learning is flexible, responsive, and driven by curiosity rather than preset activities.
This approach helps children build confidence, communication skills, and a genuine love of learning—strong foundations for kindergarten and beyond.
